THE One fuels ROTA’s Walk for Education, February 2013

On 8 February, our Qatar tribe proudly participated in ROTA’s Wheels ‘n’ Heels event for the fifth time, raising a whopping QR5,740 for the charitable organisation’s educational development projects in Asia. Knowing that thousands of do-good enthusiasts would be ‘Walking for Education’ in Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art Park on the day, 90 ‘Onederworkers’ eagerly prepared hundreds of health snack boxes to keep everyone’s energy levels running high. With all proceeds going to Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), the team sold 574 of their innovative ‘Onederfuel’ boxes at QR10 each, making a small fortune for a great cause that promotes the values of education and a healthy lifestyle through active participation.Blood Drive to boost Hamad Hospital’s supplies, January 2013
When our Qatar tribe heard that Hamad Hospital (one of their supported causes) was running out of blood, they realized that there was never a better time to host their eighth annual blood drive. Calling on the public and their customers to join them in saving lives through blood donation, they arranged for the hospital’s mobile blood donation clinic to be parked in front of THE One’s Landmark Mall Theatre on 24 January. We are happy to report that on the day, 15 staff members and 28 customers bravely donated 43 pints of blood, which could save the lives of up to 129 people they will never meet. Now that’s what we call selflessly giving back to the community!Ramadan House Renovation, July - August 2012
At THE One we have a saying: Why just be a human being when you can be a human doing good? As part of our Local Volunteering programme, where each of our business units makes a difference in the lives of their local communities by supporting their chosen causes, our Qatar tribe joined forces with Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) for the sixth year running, to renovate two homes of underprivileged families during Ramadan.
With the spirit of generosity alive and well in our Qatar Theatres, 24 Onederworkers were involved in the two-week makeover project which ran from 22 July to 2 August and included flooring, carpeting, painting as well as delivering brand-new furniture to the delighted families! THE One team is fully committed to continue supporting ROTA's Ramadan activities, thereby improving the lives of the disadvantaged in their neighbourhoods.Saving lives through blood donation, June 2012
Proud to make a difference through blood donation, 38 Onederworkers from our Qatar tribe eagerly volunteered to give blood on June 19, in support of the recent World Blood Donor Day. While only 14 qualified to donate blood at the Hamad Medical Corporation’s mobile blood clinic parked outside our Landmark Mall Theatre, the 14 pints collected can potentially save as many as 42 lives! This is the seventh consecutive year that THE One has helped to raise awareness of the need for more donors in Qatar. Here’s to Changing the World Together one pint at a time.Vocational Training, April 2012 onwards
To help integrate young challenged adults into the workplace, our Landmark Mall Theatre started hosting vocational training sessions for four students from the Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs on 15 April 2012. Supervised by their ‘Job Coach’, who is an experienced teacher from the centre, two students visit the store five days a week, every other week. The trainees work two hours a day doing tasks such as assisting with table displays, product merchandising, replenishment, checking for price tags and ensuring all light bulbs are in working order. This not only gives them insight into how a retail outlet does business, but also an opportunity to do meaningful work, which has proven to dramatically increase their sense of self-worth.
